Mary Moody Johnson, Former Senate Health Policy Advisor, Joins SL Strategies
WASHINGTON, D.C. — SL Strategies announced Thursday the addition of Mary Moody Johnson, former Health Policy Director for Ranking Member Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) on the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), as Senior Vice President, effective August 1.
"Mary is a deeply respected and thoughtful health care policy leader,” said Sara Love Rawlings, managing partner and founder of SL Strategies. “We are thrilled she will bring her passion and knowledge to our team as we work to decode policy for our clients and inspire policymakers to improve lives.”
Moody Johnson brings to the firm almost a decade of policy experience on Capitol Hill, including seven years with the office of Senator Cassidy.
“[Mary has] played an incredible role in the success of my office, in lowering the cost of health care, and serving the Americans we represent,” said Senator Cassidy in a farewell speech on the Senate floor. “I’m thankful for all she’s done. I’m sure our paths will cross again, and I’m excited to see what happens next.”
As Senator Cassidy’s health policy advisor, Moody Johnson secured passage of the bipartisan No Surprises Act, a landmark law to end surprise medical billing, and legislation advancing mental health care access. During her tenure at Senate HELP, she negotiated full committee mark-up of more than 20 bipartisan health bills on topics such as commercial market payment reform, policies to bring generic drugs to market more quickly, substance use disorder and addiction treatment, and national health security strengthening. Moody Johnson also led successful bipartisan efforts to increase funding for diabetes research and bolster the health care workforce.
A sought-after speaker and thought leader, Moody Johnson has advised on emerging health policy topics such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data privacy, and coverage for cell and gene therapies.
“After almost 10 years of helping bipartisan stakeholders move health policy forward on Capitol Hill, I’m excited to bring my expertise to SL Strategies,” said Moody Johnson. “I look forward to working with this exceptional team and our clients to advocate for health policy solutions that improve lives.”
Moody Johnson received a Master of Health Care Delivery Science degree from Dartmouth College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from Samford University.
